For many people who struggle with obesity, dieting and exercise alone are not enough to lose and maintain substantial weight loss to improve their health.

For some, bariatric surgery, in addition to lifestyle changes, may be the holistic approach to achieving and maintaining great health.

About 800 central Illinoisans have undergone bariatric surgery through Memorial Medical Center’s Bariatric Services program, all with the intended goal

of living a more fulfilling, active life after shedding the weight.

One such success story is Jill, who has lost more than 118 pounds since her surgery a year ago.

“I finally realized it was time for me to take care of myself in order to be around to take care of the ones that I love,” she said Since her surgery, Jill has become a runner and is happier than ever.

Read her story in her own words below.

  1. Hmm is anyone else experiencing problems
with the images on this blog loading? I’m trying to figure out if its a problem on my end or if it’s the blog.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Warren, which images are you not seeing? Is it only on some posts or all? What browser are you using? Maybe we can help figure out what’s going on.

  4. Thanks for the question, Teena. We’ll reach out to her and see if she’d like to provide an udpate. Great idea!

  5. Teena, I feel great! It really was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life 🙂 I’m still running, watching what I eat, taking my vitamins and participate in the monthly support groups. I’m so grateful for every day – living my life in the body of an “average” sized person is so much better than the life I had when I carried around all of that extra weight.
